Our Story
Certified Inspection Service was founded in 1971 by three partners who had worked together at another inspection company. When that company was sold, they decided to strike out on their own and build CIS from the ground up. They bought the equipment they needed at auction, were up and running within a couple of months, and reached out to customers they had worked with before, who quickly began sending them work.
Those early relationships set the tone for everything since. What began as a small Phoenix NDT shop has grown into a Nadcap-accredited provider of penetrant, magnetic particle, and radiographic inspection, along with chemical processing, for the aerospace, defense, automotive, and medical industries.
Mike Wixom joined CIS in January 1984 and worked his way up to manager by 1995. After running the business for more than a decade, he purchased the company in 2006, carrying the founders' legacy forward. Today Mike leads CIS as President and NDT Level 3, with more than 40 years at the company, and it remains family-owned, still guided by the standards its founders set more than five decades ago.
